Shout out to Jason English for taking “The End” from a ballad to a battle theme with his incredible arrangement of the song! I am honored that such a talented artist created entirely new music using just the vocals from the original. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

So, it looks like photo three wins out this round! But not to worry, the rest of the photos will still be included in the lyric booklet :) Now for the background. Here are four winter scenes chosen from my personal collection. Please let me know which one is your favorite! Also, I will give a free copy of “Warm Against The Winter” to the first person to correctly identify the location of the photos. So give me your best guess!

Warm Against the Winter

Verse 1:

Dark is the midnight
With the clouds blocking the sky
The glow of the street lights
Like heaven on earth

Pre-chorus:

I feel warm, safe from it all
Here in your arms, I feel whole
With you by my side, I can’t help but smile
Earth-bound angel, stay for a while

Chorus:

Dreaming of us
All bundled up
Warm against the winter
Dreaming of love
We’ll never wake up
Together, forever, my love

Verse 2:

Cold is the north wind
With the snow falling from high
The warmth of the fire
Like heaven on earth

Pre-chorus:

I feel warm, safe from it all
Here in your arms, I feel whole
With you by my side, I can’t help but smile
Earth-bound angel, stay for a while

Chorus:

Dreaming of us
All bundled up
Warm against the winter
Dreaming of love
We’ll never wake up
Together, forever, my love

Bridge:

All I want
My only wish
Is the sight of your smile
And the warmth of your kiss

All through the night
When the sky is grey
Sit here with me
Promise you’ll stay

Chorus:

Dreaming of us
All bundled up
Warm against the winter
Dreaming of love
We’ll never wake up
Together, forever, my love

It took a few tries, but I finally managed to get ahold of a copy of the live recording from the Jazz Composers Concert held on May 7, 2011 at the McKinney Theatre at Saddleback College. I’ve uploaded an excerpt from my final project for Jazz Composition and Arrangement with Joey Sellers. “Black and White” contrasts the simplicity of solo performance against the complexity of syncopated rhythms; it includes parts for the piano, tenor sax, trumpet, trombone, bass, and drums. This excerpt is from the second half of the piece and it includes the blowing section for the tenor sax, the blowing section for the piano, the B section, the A section, and the coda. (A blowing section is where a single musician performs an improvisation over the chord structure.) The piece was performed by the Saddleback Jazz Faculty and recorded by Kevin Mowry. I hope you enjoy my first foray into the art of jazz!

Also, if you are interested in playing it yourself, I have scans of the sheet music with parts for piano, tenor sax, trumpet, trombone, bass, and drums.
